Registration notes

Posting rules: It shouldn't need saying, but... play nice. Please keep your discussions civil. You can disagree, just don't be disagreeable. And, of course, all of the usual stuff like no spamming. Tex adds: I'll be rigorously enforcing this as we go along. We're probably going to be a small community in a little lifeboat, so we can't have members at each others' throats. This is for the sake of the project as a whole. So when you post, pretend you're speaking in person with your very wealthy auntie who has always treated you wonderfully and currently lists you prominently in her will. I won't be tossing anyone out of the forums because we are all in this together (except spammers: immediate membership cancelation), but I'll delete suspect posts right away.

Registration is a three step process!

  1. After providing your username and email address....AND RE-READING IT!!! (too many people have typed their email addresses incorrectly...)----and the email you provide must be legitimate and one that you check regularly.....
  2. We immediately send you an automated email with a one-time log-in link.   You should receive this email very quickly---something like under 10 minutes. If you do not there is something wrong.   If you do not get this email check your spam folder, or try again, or contact us if you are having problems from the "Contact" page link found on the menu bar, but please read the instructions on the contact page!  In order to help you we will need some information from you.  We check the site multiple times a day, and also our email in the event you have had a problem.   If you do not receive the automated email, do not wait more than 1 hour to contact us unless you know that your email is especially slow (remote areas and/or places with poor internet).  We will help you as soon as we can.
  3. You must follow the instructions in the email to activate your account by logging in again through the one time link.   Please complete the process as soon as you can, otherwise we will delete your account.

Update, March 5 2014:  Approval is now automatic.

from what i gather it's rather lightweight?

seems my days of running a really laggy lightroom on my underpowered ibm t60 are over. maybe..

Performance will depend on

Performance will depend on several things:

  • how you set up your preferences
  • the size of files you're running through LZ
  • the number of tools you have in your stack
  • how much is in your cache

If you start having problems, the above are the first suspects.

Impressive software

Hi all,

I have registered, but could not find the download link for version 4.0 (or 4.1beta)? Can I just install version 3.9 then? Thank you

You probably weren't approved yet.  If you still can't see it, clear your browser cache/history/cookies.

No approval email

I registered during the swarm of other users interested in trying out your software. I still have not received my email and am contacting you as requested. Could you please approve my account when you have a chance?

Thanks in advance and best regards!

I will try to remember to do

I will try to remember to do this from here, but it would help if you dropped me an email from the "contact" button on the menu bar.

Really waiting to test Lightzone for the first time!!!

you should be approved by now

you should be approved by now----try clearing your browser.

Congratulations, its the most annoying process ever to get an Open-source software!

Mannual approval? Ruin the experience on test the software and most users just never come back and never download!

You can think about. Here i'm still waiting...

There's an old saying: "Don't

There's an old saying: "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth".  If this is worst problem you are having, you are a very lucky person.  Decidedly a first world problem you're having, in the grand scheme of things.  The thing is, if we just open things up w/o membership, then the flood of people will max out the download links, so we are a little bit in a bind.  Inadvertantly, this is acting a little bit like an emergency brake right now, which is a pain but also good.  We can't afford to buy more bandwidth right now, and are not yet ready to accept donations for the website upkeep (or reimbursements for money already spent to make this happen).  It's an all volunteer effort.  Maybe you would like to volunteer to help?  If not, maybe you could hold off criticizing us until you know a bit more about what is going on with us.

FYI, our records are clearly showing that the vast majority of people (many thousands now) are coming back to download.  We do have a bunch of people who never got their automated emails, but that had to do with the website being overwhelmed, not manual approvals.  We'll be getting to all of those people, but we've had another rush from Sunday when Lifehacker featured us on their podcast.  So, first things first.....keep the site running until this rush calms down a bit.

It doesn't help having to take time writing posts like this, with everything else that is going on.

Download button

I registered last week and am still unable to find the download button. Have I not been approved yet? Or am I missing something?

You show in our records as a

You show in our records as a full participant, so that means approved.  Please clear your browser history/cache/cookies.  contact me directly if you continue to have problems, please.  Use the link in the "contact" menu bar

Just registered and waiting for approval and of course the download links. ;)

Greetings from Germany. :)

Pick me! Pick me! Attempting to finish registration. Thanks.

I can't wait to try it!

New Registration

Thank you for your fast response!

Looking forward to trying this out

It doesn't necessarily say we need to post to confirm we're not a spambot....but just thought you all might want to clarify if you expect a post or not in the reg info...especially because when folks get to this point, they see some others posting in lines of their (possible) uncertainty of whether or not they had to post...primarly because of the nature of their post content...

At any rate, thanks in advance.

Hello! I am an actual owner of Lightroom for my Home computer and it would be pretty cool to have a program that is very simular to it for my Laptop, as I take it on the road a lot and would love to be able to edit images while not at home. Can't wait to try this out and see how well it works.

Thanks Very Much!

I never got the registration

I never got the registration email. I waited 24 hours. :) But I am logged in so I hope this is working.

Let us know if you have

Let us know if you have problems.

I can't wait to try this out

I can't wait to try this out. Open Source is the future and I think Adobe's move to the cloud is a bad move for them but a good opoturnity for more open source projects like this to fill a MUCH needed niche like this

I'm also still waiting for download link

I'm also still waiting for download link. Thanks

All set

Hi guys, I'm registered and ready to go. I'm in no rush. I'll wait for the download links to pop up whenever they do. Used Lightzone before and it's great! All the best.

Anti Spam / Captcha and so on...

probably you should use a more difficult captcha. There are free captcha services accessable, which you can implement into you site for free (yes, also for drupal). If you want, I could do a short research.

Which kind of Spammers do you get? I mean which kind of problems? Probably I could have some ideas.

Actually I'm full time busy, but I would be happy to help your project. If you should have no other ideas, I would just do some suggestions over time, and probably even look for a solution.

best regards - Karlodun

I'm waiting for the link.

Excited to try this!

I'm very excited to try this out. I've been a fan of Adobe products for years but after seeing some screenshots and the article of this on Lifehacker, I would love to give this a try.

Been waiting a week for approval

I registered, received the confirmation email, and followed the link last Saturday (10/19) - still no response, and the download link does not appear. Have I done something wrong?

You are approved according to

You are approved according to our records, and probably have been for a while now.  The fact that you could post a comment and have it appear in the forum confirms this.  The problem is with your system/browser.  Please clear it.  Clear all history/cache/cookies.

Small little test :D

Testing approval

it has been nearly an hour since registering

I am not worried since i am sure it will work eventually

I am excited to have a way to process my photos with out having to pay Adobe an arm and a leg for the program

and since I do not like illegally downloading code to circumvent their registration and payment processes it was a relief to hear about you through a friend

eagerly awaiting approval and a download link!

I give up!

I've been trying to register in order to download LightZone. Been through the process several times and I give up.

I've never seen such a convoluted registration system. I'd love to have the program, but I've already spent almost an hour to register - crazy.

Just to say hello to this

Waiting for link

Hi.  Waited since last Saturday, got only the "NoReply" acknowledgement so far.  Pls send to, so I can beat my daughter getting it, and learning it together?  Thank you!  Do you need a midwestern US resident help?
