Registration notes

Posting rules: It shouldn't need saying, but... play nice. Please keep your discussions civil. You can disagree, just don't be disagreeable. And, of course, all of the usual stuff like no spamming. Tex adds: I'll be rigorously enforcing this as we go along. We're probably going to be a small community in a little lifeboat, so we can't have members at each others' throats. This is for the sake of the project as a whole. So when you post, pretend you're speaking in person with your very wealthy auntie who has always treated you wonderfully and currently lists you prominently in her will. I won't be tossing anyone out of the forums because we are all in this together (except spammers: immediate membership cancelation), but I'll delete suspect posts right away.

Registration is a three step process!

  1. After providing your username and email address....AND RE-READING IT!!! (too many people have typed their email addresses incorrectly...)----and the email you provide must be legitimate and one that you check regularly.....
  2. We immediately send you an automated email with a one-time log-in link.   You should receive this email very quickly---something like under 10 minutes. If you do not there is something wrong.   If you do not get this email check your spam folder, or try again, or contact us if you are having problems from the "Contact" page link found on the menu bar, but please read the instructions on the contact page!  In order to help you we will need some information from you.  We check the site multiple times a day, and also our email in the event you have had a problem.   If you do not receive the automated email, do not wait more than 1 hour to contact us unless you know that your email is especially slow (remote areas and/or places with poor internet).  We will help you as soon as we can.
  3. You must follow the instructions in the email to activate your account by logging in again through the one time link.   Please complete the process as soon as you can, otherwise we will delete your account.

Update, March 5 2014:  Approval is now automatic.

You have been approved. That's how you were able to make this post and have it appear in the forums.  let me know if you continue to have problems.  If I don't hear from you, I'll send you an email directly.

Thanks for keeping the software 'alive'

Over the years we've totally lost many great software programs so it's a true pleasure to find that LightZone will still be around now.  I wish you well with the Project and thank yo for the very timely response with the registration email.

You have downloaded the wrong version. Please re-read all instructions.

New release candidate versions are found on the left hand side of the page for all fully registered and approved members.

Thank You!

Just wanted to say thank you! I'm new to photography and glad that I came upon this program. I am totally excited to try it out! ^_^

Registering, and promising to behave honorably and without spam.

Looking forward to this

I've been hearing great things about Lightroom, so to hear there is a product like this in the wild, I'm chomping at the bit to be fully approved.  :)

Registration Problems

I tried registering earlier today, but I was getting an error message stating that it was unable to send the email (probably due to the traffic volume thanks to LifeHacker?). Subsequent attempts to register showed my email address already registered. Never did get the registration email, so I have no idea what the steps in the email were. Requested a new password/password reset and was able to reset it. Not having received the original registration email I have no idea if everything went through OK.

Thank You.

Screenshots looking good. Can't wait to try out and compare to my old favorites. :)

im really looking forward to downloading and using your software.

Lightzone and hackintosh compatibility

Hi ,

I've got a hackintosh and I'm hoping the software will run on it.

Made a hackintosh cause my PowerPC G5 was getting long in the tooth

Gigabyte Z77-DS3H motherboard

8 gb ram

i5-3570K intel

Especially with the interest likely generated by the LifeHacker article, and general usage overall, you might want to make the binaries available and then incorporate a registration mechanism within the software. Having to create a login, then validate, then wait for approval might not seem like a big deal to you, but the goal of emerging software is to drive the community and get the program out in the wild. I fear that this fairly cumbersome (compared to other software packages) process will result in abends. Allowing folks to try the software (perhaps ten starts?) and then forcing registration would provide for a better database (rather than a large one you'd have an invested one), and abends would be greatly reduced. Having worked in VC I would be reluctant to invest based on a 'list' generated in this manner.

I look forward to exploring the program.

Actually, the registration

Actually, the registration process is far worse for us than for you guys----especially in a situation like we've had since October 15, UTC 17:00, when we began to experience something like more than 100x our normal traffic with no warning.  It's not like LightZone is running a special offer----It will be free tomorrow and the day after that and so on.  Those are the terms of our BSD license.  Everyone didn't have to pile on all at once.

As far as VC is concerned: we're not a commercial outfit. You don't have to "trial" us before purchase---there is no purchase.

really interested

found this project on G+ post, i really interested, it's opensource, and it runs on linux! already registered, and waiting for the download link  (^,^)\/

Thanks but...

I haven't received an email from my registration yesterday (I was able to use the password reset function though).

Also, what's all this talk about having this process for 'security'. All I can see you're doing is preventing spambots entering the forums. All this fuss doesn't seem to justify trying to stop spambots.

We stated our reasons in the

We stated our reasons in the instructions, and some of them aren't security related.  It's really not much to ask for totally free software.  An annoyance for you at most, in the grand scheme of things.  Yesterday was an aberrance---more than 100x normal traffic with no warning.  That's at the root of most of the problems right now.  it will pass.

Question about approval?

Hi! I just registered and affirmed the link. Will I get an email when I am approved or do I need to come back and manually check later in the day?

still waiting to download

still waiting to download

my d/l link is gone now?

I did regiister and did get full approval.  I logged back in at that time and DID see the link (on the left side of the page) to download the application.  I was unable to download it at that time because of connection problems here.  I just logged in here now and the link is no longer there on the left.  I do see NEW instructions for downloading which upon clicking on that, I see this link for v4...

Is this now the correct link for d/l LightZone version 4 ?  Thanks for any help with this.

This looks fun!

I can't wait to try this out.  I'm trying to sell stuff online, so hopefully this software will help me get some awesome pictures.

I really hope that lightzone be as good as lightroom.

I wanted to say Hello and thanks for LightZone.I registerd and downloaded LightZone without problems, so thanks again and good luck.

Registered a week ago, not approved

Hi.  I registered 6 days ago, immediately logged in with the link emailed to me and am still waiting for approval?  Do I appear to be a sketchy character?? :)

I would appreciate somebody reviewing my profile.

Hello LightZombies Everywhere...

Looking forward to using this application!  You've done a great job in preserving the tools that will help us LZs with out photos!  CHEERS!

Hi there from beautiful Victoria, BC.  Looking orward to your approval so that I may start learning LightZone.  Have viewed a few tutirials on Youtube and it looks an interesting & well thought out program.

Thanks GuyinVic

Did I click in the correct area?

Can anyone tell me if this is what we click on to d/l the LightZone v4.0 for windows now after we have been approved?

New Instructions for
Downloading and

•  New Windows V4.0
•  New Linux V4.0
•  Mac Open Beta V4.0

I was able to get to a d/l link by clicking on "New Windows V4.0" and d/l a 28 MB file.  I just want to be sure this is the correct area to click or if this is just going to last for 30 days and then the program will stop working or something like that.  It appears to be the full program.

That's the correct series of

That's the correct series of links.  Enjoy.

Have registered, am awaiting approval

Just wanted to say that I believe that I have followed all the requirements for registration over two day ago and am still waiting for approval.  Is there something that I missed?  Thank you for your attention.

I came her after finding an article on Lifehacker.  Previously I've been using Lightroom, but shortly merged all my work directly to Photoshop.  I'm looking at going back to Lightroom, but instead of installing my old outdated version, I thought I'd give LightZone a go.  It looks promising, but can't say much since I haven't been able to download the program yet. (Waiting for my account to be validated or whatever is going on.)

Well, thanks for making LightZone a free alternative to Lightroom.  I really can't wait to try it out!

Thank you for responding.  I

Thank you for responding.  I want to share this with lots of people but wanted to be sure it was full first before posting it.

Anxious to try this.

Do not see download box

Hi! I just registered, received the link from e-mail, created password and log in.  However I do not see the download buttton on the right hand side as described.  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, and I tried using Firebox and Chromium.  Thanks,

Thanks for spreading the love in the form of this software. I heard about you on Lifehacker

Not sure if I'm missing something?

I registered 4 days ago and am still awaiting approval.  I just want to check I haven't been missed or suspected of being a spammer?  I appreciate it may just be that you guys are v busy.

Many thanks,

Appreciate  your keeping the program opensource - but you need to leverage this success - you could gain considerable advertising from photagraphy related businesses

Look forward to trying

Dad showed me this program. Looks pretty nifty.
